Jack and the Beanstalk 1

We listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, then drew pictures to illustrate different parts of the story. We then wrote sentences to retell the story in our own words. Then Mr Tyson scanned our pictures and posted them onto the Anglophone Section blog with our sentences.

Jack’s mother was furious! She threw the beans out of the window!

Jack jumped out of the window. There was a giant beanstalk, which he climbed up.

Jack climber right to the top!

At the top was a giant’s castle.

Jack’s mother chopped the beanstalk down and the giant was killed!

Jeff Kinney was born in 1971 in Maryland. Jeff wanted to be a cartoonist, but he was not successful. In 1998 he started writing Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which he hoped to turn into a book. Jeff worked six years on it. Over 70 000 kids read the online version every day. In 2006 Jeff signed a multi-book deal with Harry N. Abrams to turn Diary of a Wimpy Kid into a book. Jeff now has a full time job as a design director.

Caroline Lawrence is an English and American author. Caroline was born in London. Her father taught English and drama in a local high school and her mother was an artist. She lived with her brother and sister.Caroline inherited her father's love of words and her mother's love of art. She studied classic at Berkerly, where she won a marshal schoolship to Cambridge. The Roman Mysteries is Caroline’s love of art history, ancient languages.

After she left Cambridge, Caroline remained in England. After she taught Latin, French and art at a small primary school in London. In 2000 she wrote her first Roman Mysteries book, “The Thieves of Ostia”. It was the first book of a children's adventure story set in Ancient Rome. The book was published in 2001. She had other passions which were cinema, jazz and especially London. Caroline got divorced but she still has her son Simon. In 2009, Caroline won the Classical Association Prize of £5000.

Our favorite books are: The Thieves of Ostia, The Secrets of Vesuvius, The Pirates of Pompeii, The Assassins of Rome, The Dolphins of Laurentum, The Slave-girl of Jerusalem. We adore these books. We love Mysteries and adventures, that’s why we adore the Roman Mysteries.

We wrote an article because she is well-known.We think it is educative and for the people who like stories of the things that happened before we existed.We also like the way she invented the stories because we almost feel like we are there.We thank Caroline Lawrence for writing these books.They are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you’ve got nothing to do in your vacation go at Shangai!

There are a lot of things to do there. But you have to be resilient against heat because sometimes it can be over 40 degrees! Apart from that, you can go to restaurants, zoos, aquariums, temples, little or giants stores, the Oriental Pearl tower, ETC… If you go there, take a camera!

The money is the Yuan. You can travel at Shanghai by taxi, bus and metro. The taxi costs 15 Yuan, the bus 1 Yuan and the metro 3 Yuan. At Shanghai, there’s a river called Huang Pu that divides the city in two parts. If you go early there, you can fly a kite.

In Shanghai, you can find lots of stores that have jade and china. There are a lot of museums that have jade, bronze, silk (it’s very rare), china, and beautiful wood.

One of the most famous author Michael Andrew Morpurgo was born the 5 of October 1943. The town he grew up in was St Albans Hertfordshire. Right now he is 67. Michael Morpurgo lives with wife and his three children.

In 1976 Michael and his wife, Clare, started the Farms For Children Charity (FFCC), which aims to relieve the poverty of experience of young children from inner city and urban areas by providing them with a week in which they work actively and purposefully on farms in the heart of the countryside.

Michael’s first job was being a primary teacher in Kent. He taught in the school of London Sussex in Canterbury. He wrote more than 120 books. His first book was called, It Never Rained, it was published in 1974. Some of his books were made into films. Like War horse. Michael Morpurgo has worked with a number of illustrators, including Quentin Blake, Christian Birmingham, Emma Chichester Clark, Michael Foreman, Shoo Rayner, Tony Ross and Sarah Young.

The reason why we like Michael Morpurgo is because we love reading his books. There is nothing else we would rather do then read his books. They are the best books we have ever read. Our favourite books are Shadow, War horse and Kaspar The Prince Of Cats. We recommend these books to all our friends.

Our favorate books are The Witches and Matilda.

The books Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach and Fantastic Mister Fox have been made into films.

We like his books because they are always funny, interesting, mysterious, and the BFG has made-up language which is funny .

One of the schools he went to was Repton and it is an old English collège.

Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916. He was a writer.

His childhood experiences very much affected him as a writer; you can see this in his book “Matilda”.

In this book you can see a very bad teacher. Well if you return back to time in somewhere around 1920, these things are everywhere, in every school!

First: he was wearing horrible schools uniform.

Second (the worst): he could be beaten by teachers for little mistakes. The worst of these beatings were so long that the teacher

had to stop to smoke his pipe at little moments.

In 1943, Dahl wrote his first book, “The Gremlins”. He has also write a second book “James And The Giant Peach”.

Jack London was an American author and journalist .

He is best remembered as the author of Call of the Wild and White Fang, both set in the Klondike.

Jack London was born near Third and Brannan Streets in San Francisco. The house burned down in the fire after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

London began working 12 to 18 hours a day at Hickmott's Cannery. He borrowed money from his black foster mother Virginia Prentiss.

He loved writing about wolves because he liked them.

This is a picture of me and my brothers and my mom and my papa in San Diego, where I am from. We ate sushi on the dock in front of an aircraft carrier in the San Diego bay. I love the ocean and used to go to it all the time. My favorite place used to be the cove where I could easily catch hermit crabs and little fish in buckets. Once my mom caught a huge sea slug, it was bright purple and red! I loved to see the seals there and collect sea shells!

In Portugal, she met her husband and later had a daughter named Madeline. Sadly, she then divorced with Mr. Rowling. Back in England, Joanne decided to live alone in Edinburgh with her daughter. Later, she became a French teacher. This wasn’t an easy job with her child around… She decided to write her book when her daughter slept. A few months later, the American rights were bought for an amazing price, and Rowling said good-bye to teaching.YOUPPPIIIIII!!!

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in

January 3 1892. He grew up in South Africa.

Books he wrote: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings,

He wrote these books in 1916–1971. He got inspired by his close friend C.S Lewis who wrote the series of Narnia.

The story of the The Hobbit is a story that happens in middle earth. It all starts with a hobbit who finds a ring that can turn you invisible and have a lot of power. To avoid a conflict situation, you should…

1.Stop provoking the person or stop being provoked.

2.Don’t get into a fight with someone.

3.Ignore anybody who tries to get you in trouble (walk away).

4.Tell to a teacher if you are in school or an adult about the person’s behavior.

5. Not reply to an insult.

Examples of conflict situations:

Ex 1: Joe was in school.

Bob came towards him and said “$#*T!!”

Joe got mad and said “@$$#°l€!!” to Bob.

What should Joe have done?

He should have told a teacher, called some friends or just walked away.

Ex 2: Sam was walking in the street by himself. A tall teenager ran towards Sam and pushed him.

“Give me your snack, kid!” he said.

“Leave me alone, you pile of junk!” Sam replied.

What should Sam have done instead?

He should have reasoned it out or given him a bit of his snack. When he arrives home, he should tell his parents.

HOW TO STAY OUT OF A CONFLICT SITUATION

1. Do not provoke the person; stay calm!

2. If someone tries to provoke you, don’t get annoyed just ignore the person.

3. Talk to people with respect. If they don’t talk to you with respect you can talk about it with an adult.

4. Listen to other people: maybe they have a good reason to complain.

5. Try to find solutions to problems, which satisfy everyone.

WHAT TO DO IN A CONFLICT SITUATION

1. If you are in a conflict situation, at school, go and tell a teacher. If a teacher isn’t there go see your friends.

2. If nobody is here try to reason him\her up.

3. If the person is going to run after you, go and run to your friends; they can help and support you.

EXAMPLES OF CONFLICT SITUATIONS

Ex N°1: One day someone says they are going to beat you up during class. Go directly to the teacher and then the teacher will tell the child off. There is a risk if you are a boy that they will be even angrier with you and will want to beat you up even more but if you don’t want this to happen try to reason the person up, and if he doesn’t go and see an adult.

Ex N°2: One afternoon, I was playing with my two sisters, Amaris and Emilie, when I started giggling with Amaris. Then Emilie started kicking me, instead of kicking her back I went to tell my mum but my mum ignored me and I was very cross with her. But then she finally listened to me and told my sister to stop.

This summer I read a book called ANIMAL by Dorling Kindersley Books.

It’s about all different types of animals like Mammals, Insects, Reptiles, Birds, Amphibians, Fish, and Invertebrates. If you love animals you will love this book. My favourite animal is the cuttlefish: it is like a squid but it is smaller and has better camouflage ability. The cuttlefish can also hypnotize its prey.

Roald Dahl was born the 13^th of September 1916 and died the 23^rd of November 1990. His father, Harald, had a terrible accident and had to cut off his left arm. His mother, Sofie married Harald in 1911 and they had five children but one of them, Astri, died from appendicitis when she was 7. He had three other sisters: Asta, Else and Alfhid.

Roald Dahl himself had five children: Olivia, Tessa, Theo, Ophelia and Lucy. Unfortunately Olivia died of the measles when she was 7.

Roald wrote: The BFG, Danny the Champion of the World, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Grate Glass Elevator, Fantastic Mr. Fox, George’s Marvellous Medicine.

He started writing for adults but then he started to write non-fiction books and fiction books for children. His stories were hilarious and we always want more and want to know what is going to happen next. If he were still alive we would want him to write more, more, more…

In some of his books like Matilda, for example you can find some of his experiences at school. You can also find some unpleasant adults. In James and the Giant Peach the two aunts aren’t nice and in Matilda the headmistress is the mean one. All of his books were funny, scary and sad but the main people that are nice in his books always win.

Disneyland Paris is an attraction park, only 1 hour’s drive from Fontainebleau. It’s a great place for a family to stay the whole day.

My favorite ride was the Holly-wood Tower because it was really funny and really scary. My second one was Rock and Roll because it did loops and it went really fast. The last won was The Mine Train. I liked because you went really fast and you thought you were were going to bang with the other train.

The movie was a little scary. The movie was about people testing some medicine

During the summer holidays, I went to the Eiffel tower .We went to the 1st floor, then the 2^nd floor, and the 3rd floor. At the 3rd floor, you can see the whole city of Paris! I felt a bit scared!

At the 1st floor, there’s a restaurant. You can eat and look at the city. It’s very expensive to eat there, so we went back home instead!
