During the summer, I went to see my Grandma and my aunt in Canada. I stayed at Charleston Lake, near the Saint Lawrence River, an hour South of Ottawa in Ontario. I stayed in a cottage, which we rented along with a boat and doughnut ring (to be pulled through the water).
There we went fishing, swimming, on boat rides, and on the doughnut. We also went on picnics.
My favourite activity was fishing: I fished from the dock, and caught many little fish, which we threw back in the water, after having kept them in a bucket! They were too small to keep and eat. But we also went fishing on the boat, in deeper water: I got up with my dad and his friend Brad at 5 in the morning, had a quick breakfast and by 9am we were back with huge fishes. I caught a big fish, a lake bass, and it weighted 3.5 pounds (about 1.6kg!)! Wow, and my mother said it was excellent too when we ate it for dinner in the evening…
My favourite breakfast there was Canadian blueberry pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. My second favourite was doughnuts!
In the evening, we were very tired but sometimes went for a big ice cream in the nearby village. One evening, we also had a camp fire and cooked smors: marshmallows cooked on the fire and sandwiched in crackers. Delicious.
I was very sad the holidays were over and am counting the days to our next trip there next summer!
